What Is SIA Training?
SIA training is a mandatory professional qualification for security roles in the UK. Without an approved SIA licence, you cannot legally work in private security. The training includes classroom sessions, practical activities, and assessment modules. Each training category prepares you for specific skills, such as handling security incidents, emergency procedures, conflict management, and customer service.
Types of SIA Training Available in Birmingham
Birmingham offers a full range of security courses. The most in-demand options include:
Door Supervisor Course
This is one of the most popular choices because it allows you to work in multiple settings, including shopping centres, events, clubs, hotels, and corporate buildings. The course covers physical intervention, conflict management, and safety awareness.
Security Guard Course
Ideal for roles in retail, offices, warehouses, hospitals, and construction sites. It focuses on patrolling, reporting, and maintaining a safe environment.

This course is designed for those interested in working in control rooms, monitoring live footage, and handling surveillance systems. It covers data protection, operational procedures, and emergency responses.
Close Protection Course
A more advanced course for individuals who want to work in VIP protection, high-risk environments, or corporate security teams. It includes advanced safety skills, planning, threat assessment, and defensive tactics.
What to Expect During SIA Training
Each course follows a structured format that helps you learn both practical and theoretical skills:
Theory Classes
Covering laws, safety procedures, communication, risk assessment, and responsibilities.
Practical Exercises
Role-playing, physical intervention techniques (if applicable), and real-life scenario training.
