To get an SIA license you need to do a relevant qualification, these include:
Level 2 Award for Door supervisors
Level 2 Award for Security Officers
Level 2 Award for CCTV operators
Level 3 certificate for Close Protection.
After completing the qualification you can apply for your license directly at the SIA website by creating a login and filling in your details.
Each qualification will give you a specific SIA license for each sector. For example you can not be a close protection operative (bodyguard) without the close protection license.
After passing your relevant qualifications, apply at the SIA home office website, filling in your personal details. A £184 license fee will be payable, after which a DBS criminal check will be done on you to ensure you are safe to be a security guard. After this your licensed will be issued which will last for 3 years before renewal.
